The State Information Technology (IT) Security Analyst is responsible for analyzing information security systems and recommending and developing statewide security measures to protect information

Special Job Requirements:

Participates in on-call schedule for the agency. Occasional travel to state agencies and institutions is required during the year. Valid Arkansas driver’s license is required.

Typical Functions:

Trains users and promotes security awareness to ensure system security and to improve server and network efficiency. Confers with users to discuss issues, such as computer data access needs, security violations, and programming changes. Modifies computer security files to incorporate new software, correct errors, or change individual access status. Monitors use of data files and regulates access to safeguard information in computer files. Performs risk assessments and executes tests of data processing systems to ensure functioning of data processing activities and security measures. Encrypts data transmissions and erects firewalls to conceal confidential information as it is being transmitted and to keep out tainted digital transfers. Performs disaster recovery scenarios and exercises to ensure backup and recovery for critical business computer systems. Performs network and computer forensics in cooperation with state, federal, and local law enforcement. Documents computer security and emergency measures policies, procedures, and tests. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of LAN/WAN, telecommunications, voice, computer systems design, computer systems administration. Knowledge of security applications analysis, determining how a security application should work, and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes. Knowledge of technology design and generating or adapting equipment and technology to serve security functions. Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Ability to identify complex information security related issues and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Ability to determine causes of security operating errors and determine solutions.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, or related field, with at least five years of experience in the field. OR Completion of technical training in computer science, data processing, or a related field acquired from a vocational, military or industrial setting, plus five years of experience in computer support. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
