TSS EEF SR SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR

The Arkansas Department of Information Systems (DIS) Eligibility Enrollment Framework (EEF) Senior System Administrator is responsible for statewide system software, monitoring and maintenance to ensure and support availability to all systems users. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Provides AIX/PowerVM architecture, administration, problem resolution, and support for customers. Provides recommendations and implements system tuning and configuration changes in AIX and PowerVM. Performs Perl & shell scripting, creates new scripts, and modifies existing scripts to automate processes. Provides technical assistance to the development teams. Develops and documents disaster recovery plans and participates in testing to ensure environment is recoverable within proper time limits. Maintains technical documentation to reflect changes to the environment. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of computer systems, maintenance, and updating of hardware and software. Knowledge of strategic planning and computer resource allocation. Knowledge of indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance relative to the goals of the system. Knowledge of PowerVM (virtualization), VIO, and NIM. Knowledge of AIX including installation, administration, and troubleshooting. Knowledge of AIX application support: DB2, WebSphere, HTTP Server, and LDAP. Knowledge of IBM SAN best practices, including configuring RAID arrays and SAN zoning. Ability to understand and adhere to proper change control procedures. Ability to customize and update computer systems as required to meet the needs of statewide agencies. Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelors degree in computer science, or a related field; plus six years of experience in systems administration, including a minimum of one of the required software experience stated below. OR Completion of technical training in computer science, data processing, or a related field acquired from a vocational, military, or industrial setting; plus six years of experience in computer support and system administration, including a minimum of one of the required software experience stated below. REQUIRED SOFTWARE EXPERIENCE: PowerVM, VIO Required 5 Years AIX Required 5 Years Perl/Shell Scripting Required 5 Years IBM XIV/SAN Storage Required 3 Years Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
