THERAPY ASSISTANT
The Therapy Assistant is responsible for assisting therapist in treatment programs designed to aid patients in becoming physically functional. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:
Receives assignment of case load, reviews medical history with treatment objectives, orients patients with objectives, follows treatment program outlined by occupational therapists after discussing goals and treatment, recommends equipment needed to assist patients in becoming more functional and checks out equipment. Assists patients in program therapy, recommends changes in the treatment program in accordance with the patient’s progress, provides support and explanations and instructs the family in treatment goals to assist the patient in becoming more functional in the home. Receives training in occupational therapy techniques, attends in-service educational programs, and attends conferences, various clinics, and makes ward rounds to maintain communication with others involved with the care of the individual. Maintains departmental records on all patients referred to occupational therapy. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge of occupational therapy treatment programs. Ability to apply oral and written instructions and demonstrations. Ability to apply techniques of occupational therapy. Ability to observe, identify and report patient problems and progress during treatment.
Minimum Qualifications:
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus one year of specialized training in occupational therapy or related field; plus one year of experience in a therapy program. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
