RETAIL SPECIALIST

The Retail Specialist is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a designated retail shop or store. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Provides assistance to customers and cashiers. Receives, transfers, displays, and advertises merchandise. Opens and closes the stores and assists with or prepares deposits and daily store reporting. Processes orders for merchandise and works with vendors to secure requested items. Monitors and coordinates the inventory activities of an assigned area, prepares orders for inventory, and maintains information in designated databases. Verifies inventory records within the required database and maintains inventory tracking of all designated supplies and/or equipment. Reconciles invoices and payments against equipment and supplies received. Ensures assigned store is organized and housekeeping duties are performed. Conducts monetary transactions and operates a cash register as needed. May serve as a lead worker, providing training and guidance to fellow employees by establishing work plans, timeframes, and/or deadlines, providing general instructions, and reviewing the work performed to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with instructions or established policies and procedures. May be assigned various accounting duties or tasks related to accounting and reporting. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of computers and software application programs. Knowledge of database management, inventory practices, and basic accounting principles. Knowledge of customer service principles. Ability to creatively display merchandise. Ability to coordinate, instruct, and review the work of others as a lead worker or to serve in a supervisory capacity.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education of a high school diploma; plus one year of experience in retail operations. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
