RADIOLOGY TECHNICIAN

The Radiology Technician is responsible for maintaining and using equipment and supplies that image portions of the human body on x-ray film or fluoroscopic screens. This position is governed by state and federal law and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Positions x-ray equipment and adjusts controls to set exposure factors, such as time and distance. Positions patient on examining table and sets up and adjusts equipment to obtain optimum view of specific body area. Determines patients’ x-ray needs by reading requests or instructions from physicians. Uses beam-restrictive devices and patient-shielding techniques to minimize radiation exposure to patient and staff. Processes exposed radiographs using film processors or computer generated methods. Performs procedures such as linear tomography, mammography, sonograms, joint and cyst aspirations, routine contrast studies, routine fluoroscopy and examinations of the head, trunk, and extremities under supervision of physician. Assures that sterile supplies, contrast materials, catheters, and other required equipment are present and in working order, requisitioning materials as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of radiographic methods and procedures. Knowledge of x-ray devices and equipment. Knowledge of hospital/clinic administrative procedures. Ability to supervise production in a clinical laboratory section. Ability to operate x-ray devices, equipment and film developers. Ability to disseminate information orally and in writing. Skill in developing and evaluating film. Skill in the execution of special diagnostic procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

Registered as a radiologist in accordance with ACA 17-106-201 plus two years of experience performing x-rays. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
