MEDICAID SERVICES SUPERVISOR

The Medicaid Services Supervisor is responsible for the promulgation of the state plan activities, policy revisions, waivers, and new program planning projects of the state Medicaid program. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Supervises a small to medium sized staff by assigning and reviewing work, establishing procedures, training, approving leave, and evaluating the performance of incumbents. Ensures that the Medicaid State Plan maintains compliance with federal and state regulations and guidelines, including development of amendments and obtaining Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) approval for amendments. Oversees Medicaid policy development for provider manuals to ensure promulgation of Medicaid policy by monitoring deadlines and providing technical assistance. Serves as a liaison for the Division of Medical Assistance, federal officials, contract entities, legislature, and provider community by interpreting the Medicaid State Plan and other Medicaid program requirements. Monitors division budget, reviews and approves expenditures, advises management of potential budget issues and makes recommendations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of Medicaid program policies, procedures, and operations. Knowledge of state and federal laws governing Medicaid programs. Knowledge of medical terminology and medical professional coding Knowledge of the principles and practices of human resources and organizational management. Ability to manage and organize program activities and direct operations through subordinates. Ability to and prepare oral and written reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in business administration, human services, or related field; plus three years of experience in social service programs or a related field, including one year in a supervisory capacity. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
