LIBRARY COORDINATOR

The Library Coordinator is responsible for providing consultative services to library trustees, local government officials, librarians, and library staff in the development of library services and programs. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Provides consultation services to libraries, including general information about library organizations, materials acquisition, budget development, automation issues, program planning, and reading program support. Serves as representative on various committees to develop and enhance library services and to develop working partnerships with outside organizations. Serves as program representative for various initiatives and public relations activities, including workshops, community events, and conferences. Researches, develops, and prepares educational materials and conducts workshops designed to educate the library community and the public. Compiles information and prepares statistical reports, questionnaires, and surveys. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of professional library work. Knowledge of modern library methods, techniques, and terminology. Knowledge of library administration, finance, and economic and social trends. Knowledge of library service patterns and library subject specialties. Ability to apply professional knowledge and program expertise in specific program areas. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Ability to analyze situations accurately and take effective action. Ability to use computer programs, systems, and databases. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with others.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in related field; plus three years of experience in professional library services work. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
