GENERAL PHYSICIAN
The General Physician is responsible for the diagnoses, treatment, and to prevent diseases and injuries that commonly occur in the general population. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:
Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat of prevent illness, disease, or injury. Order, perform, and interpret tests and analyze records, reports, and examination of information to diagnose patients’ condition. Monitor patients conditions and progress and reevaluate treatments as necessary. Collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical history, reports, and examination results. Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients. Advise patients and community members concerning diet, activity, hygiene, and disease prevention. Refer patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat injuries and diseases. Knowledge of human behavior and performance. Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics. Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral. Ability to read and understand information and ideas.
Minimum Qualifications:
The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in medical sciences or a related field. Licensed by the state of Arkansas as a Physician. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
