FORENSIC TECHNICIAN SUPERVISOR

The Forensic Technician Supervisor is responsible for directing the activities of a forensic laboratory section. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Typical Functions:

Supervises a staff of technicians by interviewing, hiring, assigning work, evaluating the performance of incumbents and training employees. Oversees laboratory activities in one of the following sections: Evidence Receiving, Field Investigation, Histology, and Autopsy Services. Develops and implements section specific policies and procedures. Maintains files, chain of evidence, and inventory control of tissues and biological specimens. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of supervisory practices and techniques. Knowledge of proper evidence handling techniques. Knowledge of appropriate equipment/instruments. Ability to use appropriate equipment/instruments. Ability to maintain accurate case records. Ability to prepare technical reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of an associate’s degree with an emphasis in science coursework; plus four years of experience in a forensic laboratory or a related field, including one year in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
