DIG AFHC DIRECTOR

The Arkansas Fair Housing Commission (AFHC) Director is responsible for enforcement of fair housing rules and regulations as established by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Typical Functions:

Provides leadership and vision in communicating, interpreting, and implementing the mission of the Commission to its constituencies. Manages the operations of the Commission including fiscal requirements, daily operation, and human resources responsibilities. Prepares required reports and proposes legislation enabling the Commission to conduct its operations in compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations. Oversee the investigation of fair housing complaints and attempts to develop solutions to violations. Represents the Commission to external community including legislators, governmental agencies, vendors, contractors, and other housing providers. Provides technical assistance to Commission members on investigation findings and administrative issues. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of state and federal laws, rules, and regulation governing fair housing. Knowledge of the principles and techniques of organizational, financial, and human resources management. Knowledge of supervisory practices and techniques. Ability to interpret applicable laws, rules and regulations. Ability to oversee fair housing operations and solutions for related violations. Ability to compile and prepare related correspondence and reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in public administration, social work or a related field; plus eight years of progressively more responsible experience in the housing industry, including four years in a regulatory capacity and one year in a managerial capacity.
