DHS/DAAS PROGRAM SPECIALIST

The Department of Human Services (DHS) / Division of Aging and Adult Services (DAAS)
Program Specialist is responsible for research and statistical reporting for ongoing
and special projects in regard to the Medicaid program originating from the Division of
Aging and Adult Services. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency
policy.

Special Job Requirements:

Typical Functions:

Collects and enters data from program participants, physicians, and other DHS personnel. Conducts surveys, and participates in the creation and analysis of continuous quality improvement initiatives. Reviews, enters, and codes eligible program participants into a database, developing individualized cash expenditure plans and applying the correct coding to enter program participants into the Medicaid Management Information System. Prepares various monthly and quarterly surveys with program participants measuring the participant’s understanding of responsibilities, identifying any weaknesses in participation, and submitting monthly reports documenting current findings. Accesses information held in databases to respond orally and in writing to inquiries from the Governor’s Office, program participants, DHS staff, and program applicants while adhering to all requirements of protected health information. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of state and federal human services program rules and regulations. Knowledge of methods and techniques of statistical research. Ability to compile and analyze research and statistical data. Ability to interpret and apply program objectives and translate research findings into comprehensive reports and proposals. Ability to plan, organize, and execute research projects. Ability to prepare written reports and communicate orally.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in social work, mathematics, general business, public administration, or a related field; plus one year of experience in research, statistics, planning or a related field.
