DFA TECHNICIAN

The DFA Technician is responsible for examining evidentiary records, contracts, tax returns, and child support case files. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Examines evidentiary records, including tax returns, applications, forms, vouchers, records and reports, to verify completeness and accuracy, as well as compliance with laws and regulations, and makes corrections as needed. Computes tax, penalties, interest, or refunds due and prepares forms to bill/refund taxpayer. Researches files for information to prepare reports or amend tax returns, and prepares history of evidentiary records for field auditors as required. Provides technical assistance to other employees, as applicable, by interpreting tax regulations or child support procedures. Maintains updated manual and computerized files. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of tax regulations and accounting principles. Ability to identify and correct discrepancies in evidentiary records, tax returns, or financial records. Ability to calculate penalties, interest, or refunds due on taxes. Ability to train and instruct new employees on procedures, as well as the interpretation and application of laws.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus one year of experience in evidentiary or child support case records examination, tax reporting, tax examination, customer service, clerical work, or a related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
