DDSSA PROFESSIONAL RELATIONS OFFICER

The Disability Determination for the Social Security Administration (DDSSA) Professional Relations Officer is responsible for recruiting and maintaining medical service providers who will agree to perform a wide variety of medical and physical examinations for Social Security disability claimants. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Occasional in and out-of-state travel is required.

Typical Functions:

Identifies, recruits, and maintains listings of physicians, psychologists, medical facilities, laboratories, and other mental and medical professionals whose services are needed throughout the state. Assists explaining medical records requirements, including how to establish and transmit medical records electronically, to the agency. Ensures compliance of existing and proposed consultative examination regulations by reviewing federal regulations. Develops and recommends revised procedures for compliance monitoring. Prepares monthly, quarterly, and yearly statistical reports on recruitment and consultative examination activities by reviewing and compiling data from recruitment and consultative examination records. May investigate complaints relating to current service providers not following agency and federal examination procedures. May act as an agency liaison to the medical community by participating as an exhibitor at medical and professional conferences and making presentations on the Social Security disability provider program. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of the federal Social Security disability program. Knowledge of recruitment techniques. Ability to read and interpret federal rules and regulations relating to the federal Social Security disability program. Ability to relate to medical community. Ability to prepare, present, and review oral and written information.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, sociology, or a related field; plus two years of training, administrative or professional experience in Social Security disability adjudication.

Required Certificates:

Must possess a valid Arkansas driver’s license.
