CONSTRUCTION SUPERVISOR

The Construction Supervisor is responsible for supervising journeyman level workers and assists in construction projects. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Provides general supervision of the work of subordinates by assigning work, establishing deadlines, providing instructions, training new employees, and reviewing the work performed to ensure accuracy and compliance with instructions, and evaluates the performance of incumbents. Performs preventive maintenance on equipment, troubleshoots, repairs and/or replaces defective equipment, and monitors equipment log to ensure that preventive maintenance is performed. Oversees construction activities by interpreting blueprints, assigning jobs, interpreting plans, estimating costs of materials, equipment, labor, and supplies needed in various types of construction, and maintaining inventory. Performs on-site inspections of completed construction, maintenance work, and work in progress. Coordinates activities with contractors to expedite processes relevant to project requirements and schedules. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of institutional rules and regulations. Knowledge of construction and maintenance procedures and state and federal building codes. Knowledge of materials methods and the appropriate tools to construct objects, structures, and buildings. Ability to plan, organize, and oversee construction and maintenance projects. Ability to work through adversity and hold self and others accountable for work actions. Ability to maintain inventory and requisition supplies. Ability to interpret blueprints and building specifications. Ability to maintain inmate security and provide instructions to inmates in construction/maintenance procedures in compliance with safety regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

The ability to read and write; plus four years of experience in construction activities, or a related field, including one year in a supervisory or leadership capacity. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
