ADH DIRECTOR STATISTICS & VITAL RECORDS

The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) Director of Statistics and Vital Records is responsible for overseeing the complete organization of all health records consistent with regulatory requirements of the health care system. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Typical Functions:

Reviews and protects the security of health statistics and vital records in an attempt to ensure that both complete compliance with the regulations and confidentiality is maintained. Coordinates the retrieval and release of statistical information for both ADH personnel and interdepartmental agencies according to the regulations. Develops multiple methodologies for structured collection, analysis, classification, and storage of all types of health information. Compiles the necessary percentage of statistical information for potential health care improvement efforts, health cost improvement efforts, and future research purposes. Coordinates personnel for assigning patients to specific diagnosis-related groups. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures. Knowledge of records managing software programs. Knowledge of software programs used to design forms. Knowledge of statistical programming software applications. Knowledge of principles for providing customer services. Ability to clearly orally communicate information to others. Ability to read and distinguish detailed information within a yard of the observer. Ability to organize health related information according to a predetermined methodology. Ability to clearly communicate information to others through both oral and written methods. Ability to identify a potential problem before occurrence of the problem. Ability to comprehend previously documented information.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a master’s degree in statistics, mathematics, business administration or a relate field; plus five years of progressively more responsible experience in health records and statistical management.
