ACOM BURIAL ASSOCIATION BD EXEC SEC

The Burial Association Board Exec Secretary is responsible for overseeing the licensure of Funeral Directors, Embalmers, Establishments, Transport Services and Crematories. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Directs the licensure of Funeral Directors, Embalmers, Establishments, Transport Services and Crematories by overseeing the conducting of tests for licensees, inspecting establishments, coordinating and directing the funeral director and embalmers apprenticeship programs, investigating and hearing complaints, and the administering and tracking the Continuing Education Program. Supervises a subordinate staff by interviewing and hiring, making work assignments, monitoring work performed and evaluating job performance. Compiles and prepares budget information for presentation to Board members. Ensures Board directives are carried out for compliance with state laws rules and regulations governed burial boards. Attends Board meetings to present information on inspections, investigations and office operations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Knowledge of funeral home and burial board operations. Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations governing the funeral home and burial board industry. Ability to supervise a subordinate staff. Ability to interpret applicable laws, rules and regulations. Ability to provide information and testimony on funeral home inspections and investigations.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in public administration or related field; plus three years of experience in funeral home operations or related area, including one year in a leadership or supervisory capacity. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
