TSS STATE NETWORK SUPPORT LEAD

The State Network Support Lead is responsible for designing and developing statewide network systems. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Special Job Requirements:

On-call duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week for escalation of problem resolution.

Typical Functions:

Designs and directs installation of internal and external networks. Coordinates and links computer systems within an agency and the state to increase compatibility and to share information. Directs testing and evaluation of network systems to eliminate problems and make improvements. Consults with management to ensure agreement on system principles. Plans expansion or modifications systems to serve new purposes or improve work flow. Writes documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, and corrections and manuals for users to describe installation and operating procedures. Coordinates with vendors and with company personnel to facilitate network system acquisitions. Supervises technical support, provisioning, engineering, and maintenance of the State network. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources. Knowledge of object-oriented programming languages, as well as client and server applications development processes, and multimedia and Internet technology. Knowledge of networks, maintenance, and updating of hardware and software. Ability to customize and update networks, as required by the needs of statewide agencies. Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field; plus eight years of experience in network administration, plus two years supervisory experience. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA) within one year of employment; Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) or Registered Professional Engineer (PE) within four years of employment. OR Completion of technical training in computer science, data processing, or a related field acquired from a vocational, military, or industrial setting; plus ten years of experience in network administration, including two years of supervisory experience. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA) within one year of employment; Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) or Registered Professional Engineer (PE) within four years of employment. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
