REHAB MED DIR ALCOHOL REHAB CTR-BENTON

The Rehabilitation Medical Director for the Alcohol Rehabilitation Center in Benton is responsible for directing and providing medical detoxification services for alcohol and drug addictions as well as other chronic medical or psychiatric disorders. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Typical Functions:

Provides general direction to subordinate staff by developing short and long term organizational goals and objectives, determining the allocation of internal and external resources, advising staff seeking guidance, and overseeing the functions of program activities to ensure fulfillment of the organization’s mission and objectives. Coordinates and directs education and alcohol and drug abuse rehabilitation services for clients, reviews and disseminates assessment reports, and makes recommendations and referrals. Prescribe proper medication for the treatment of alcohol and drug abuse treatment; track medication usage and inventory. Directs or conducts client staff sessions to ensure due process and makes recommendations for treatment and placement. Coordinates requests for information from other agencies including law enforcement and prosecutors as needed. Develops alcohol and drug abuse policies and procedures for the department and writes and disseminates standard operating procedures for the center. Reviews and approves annual budget for treatment needs, requisitions for supplies, and monitors inventory. Conducts staff meetings for an exchange of information and to keep staff abreast of policies and procedure changes. Audits and maintains client medical records regarding treatment admission and progress. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of state budgetary, human resources, and purchasing procedures. Knowledge of public health medical professional theories, concepts and methods. Knowledge of the laws and regulations pertaining to client confidentiality. Knowledge of addiction medicine principles, practices and protocols. Knowledge of state, federal and community resources. Ability to assign and coordinate work activities and monitor the performance of direct care and administrative program staff. Ability to provide comprehensive medical care. Ability to prepare and review medical reports and maintain medical records. Ability to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and recommend changes.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of medical degree approved by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association and successful completion of the internship or residency postgraduate requirements; plus six years of progressively more responsible experience in the delivery of psychological or rehabilitation counseling services, including three years in a professional managerial capacity.

Required Certificates:

Must be licensed as a Physician by the State Medical Board in accordance with ACA 17-95-401 and 403.
