DHS AHC NURSING HOME ADMINISTRATOR

The Department of Human Services (DHS) / Arkansas Health Center (AHC) Nursing Home Administrator is responsible for overseeing daily operations of nursing home units and intradepartmental sections of the AHC. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Typical Functions:

Directs the activities of divisional personnel through lower level managers and supervisors by determining overall division goals and objectives and by managing subordinate staff, including interviewing, hiring, providing training, assigning and reviewing work, evaluating the performance of immediate subordinates, and serving as performance evaluation reviewing official for lower level divisional employees. Researches nursing home laws, rules, regulations, and trends; develops policies and procedures governing AHC nursing home operations within the framework of existing legislation. Monitors incidents involving abuse and neglect of residents through review of reports and investigations conducted by subordinate personnel. Investigates resident deaths and incidents involving emergency care; prepares and submits required reports and documentation. Resolves misappropriation of property belonging to residents. Prepares and presents reports and correspondence pertaining to nursing home operations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of federal and state laws, rules, and regulations governing nursing home operations. Knowledge of organizational management, human resources management, and public administration. Ability to analyze data, plan outcomes, and determine solutions. Ability to interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures, and develop and recommend revisions. Ability to organize and present clear and concise oral and written reports of findings and recommendations. Ability to plan and direct the work of others. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in health care administration, public administration or a related field; plus six years of progressively more responsible experience in health care administration, including four years in a professional managerial capacity.

Required Certificates:

Must be licensed as a Nursing Home Administrator in Arkansas by the (DHS) Office of Long-Term Care in accordance with ACA 20-10-402.
