TSS STATE PRODUCTION CONTROL SUPERVISOR

The State Production Control Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the scheduling and monitoring of data processing production jobs. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Special Job Requirements:

Occasional off-shift work schedules are required. Daily and weekend overtime are required as a normal part of the job. Job may require travel and requires valid driver’s license.

Typical Functions:

Leads section activities by overseeing the daily production schedule, establishing standards for scheduling procedures, and providing training and technical assistance to section personnel on scheduling procedures. Receives and coordinates input tapes and data necessary to run programs, establishes scheduling priorities, and sets up production jobs. Assists in developing special schedules or new system production job set-ups. Identifies and corrects problems caused by incorrect input or output or contacts appropriate resources to assist in problem correction. Maintains job control language (JCL), runs books, and check logs to verify that output is correct. Provides quick response to e-mail and problem requests. Authorizes and schedules use of data processing equipment and files after normal working hours and on weekends. Communicates with users and programming staff on systems output. Checks job completion codes and tape information by reviewing tape management systems, JCL listings, system catalogs, and system logs. Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of job control language. Knowledge of computer operations procedures. Ability to assign and coordinate work activities and monitor the performance of co-workers. Ability to schedule processing time of information systems operations to ensure effective utilization of equipment. Ability to establish schedule priorities and set up production jobs. Ability to maintain job control language, run books, and check logs, to read, comprehend, and assimilate highly technical documents and use that knowledge for practical application. Ability to develop and maintain a good rapport with clients, vendors, peers, and supervisors. Ability to effectively communicate in written and verbal formats.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus three years of related work experience. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
