TELEVISION PRODUCTION MANAGER

The Television Production Manager is responsible for the overall operations of creative services for educational television. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Supervises a subordinate staff by interviewing, recommending for hire, promotions or terminations, assigning and reviewing work performance, and conducting performance evaluations. Coordinates of outreach activities, including exhibit schedules, special promotional events, and community services activities related to national Public Broadcasting System (PBS) and local productions. Oversees project assignments of staff from concept through execution and implementation to create comprehensive theme and multi-media promotion. Designs and supervises construction of stage and backgrounds for television production and special events. Assists in project assignments and scheduling staff. Responsible for advertising campaigns and advertising budget for PBS, local productions, and special events. Conceptualizes project design through planning sessions with department staff. Initiates contact with media outlets to ensure best possible promotion of the agency’s programs and events. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Knowledge of photographic development, filming, printing, and reproduction techniques. Knowledge of art layout and design techniques. Ability to evaluate and identify design concepts. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of subordinates.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in art or a related field; plus three years of experience in commercial art, graphic design, television production, or a related field, including one year of supervisory experience. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
