SURVEY CREW CHIEF

The Survey Crew Chief is responsible for leading property survey team activities. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Special Job Requirements:

Occasional in-state travel is required.

Typical Functions:

Schedules, distributes, and oversees the work of co-workers in accordance with established work flow requirements. Supervises the collection of survey data, secures equipment, makes reconnaissance of land, determines location and measurements of points, calculates and verifies the accuracy of field data, collects quadrangle sheets, and compares with old surveys. Performs on-site inspection of construction projects, reads blueprints, and stakes out construction sites. Assists in drawing topography maps and survey plats as needed. Maintains field notes, maps, and pertinent survey information regarding survey laws, deeds, leases, and abstracts. Maintains inventory of equipment and makes requests on equipment purchases. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Knowledge of land surveying practices and procedures. Knowledge of the use of survey equipment. Ability to research and collect survey data. Ability to assign and coordinate work activities and monitor the performance of survey crew. Ability to operate survey equipment. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, property maps, and related material. Ability to maintain and update survey information and inventory of equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus the completion of a two year vocational training program in land surveying; plus three years of experience in land surveying, including one year in a leadership capacity.

Required Certificates:

Must possess a valid Arkansas driver’s license.
