STUDENT LOAN FINANCE SPECIALIST
The Student Loan Finance Specialist is responsible for evaluating and analyzing students' needs and financial aid eligibility, selecting candidates and determining type and amount of financial assistance to be awarded, and coordinating assigned financial aid programs. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Typical Functions:
Analyzes financial information submitted by applicants utilizing established federal and
University standards and guidelines to determine financial needs. Selects candidates and
determine type and amount of financial aid to be awarded.
Assists in the preparation of student financial assistance policies, conducts interviews with
applicants and their parents, counsels students and answer inquiries from various sources
on financial aid policies and procedures.
Assists in making application for federal funds for government loan programs, and
administers rules and regulations set forth by the federal government concerning
government funds.
Coordinates and administers assigned financial aid programs such as the federal work study
program and federal and institutional loan programs, and develops and implements new
initiatives within assigned program area.
Prepares detailed reports and compiles information concerning undergraduate financial aid
and assigned programs as requested by the federal government and University officials, and
edits brochures, questionnaires, applications and other material distributed by the Financial
Aid Office for publication.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge of the credit analysis and lending practices.
Knowledge of the operation and function of standard office equipment including calculators
and data entry devices.
Ability to interpret and apply rules, laws, or policies to specific situations.
Ability to analyze loan applications and determine eligibility for loans.
Ability to maintain records and compile reports.
Ability to convey and exchange oral and written information of a specialized nature.
Minimum Qualifications:
The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in finance, banking, accounting, or a
related field; plus three years of experience in student financial aid, commercial lending,
credit analysis, or a related field.
