STATE FORESTER

The Arkansas Forestry Commission's mission is to promote forest resource health, conservation, and stewardship. The agency protects 15.6 million acres of public and private forest land from wildfire, provides emergency response to disasters, operates a seedling nursery that produces approximately 10 million seedlings annually, and manages a 22,000 acre state forest. The Commission employs 279 personnel with an annual operating budget of $20 million, and is administered under the Arkansas Agriculture Department.

The State Forester serves at the pleasure of the Governor, and will receive direction and supervision from the Secretary of the Arkansas Agriculture Department. The State Forester reports to the Board of Commissioners of the Arkansas Forestry Commission, fulfilling the role of Secretary to the Board by setting agendas and ensuring that Board decisions are acted upon. The State Forester also serves on the Arkansas Pollution Control and Ecology Commission and the Arkansas Forestry Association Board of Directors ex officio.
