STATE DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR LEAD

The State Database Administrator Lead is responsible for providing general supervision of the work of a subordinate professional, paraprofessional, and administrative support staff engaged in system administrative activities by assigning and prioritizing work assignments, providing instructions, reviewing work performed, and evaluating employee performance. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Special Job Requirements:

May participate in rotating on-call schedule for the agency. Occasional travel including transportation by air.

Typical Functions:

Analyzes the organization’s database needs, develops a long-term strategy for data storage, and projects long range requirements for database administration. Establishes policies and procedures related to data security and integrity. Plans, coordinates, and implements security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification, or disclosure. Confers with and advises subordinates on administrative policies and procedures, technical problems, priorities, and methods. Supervises staff, evaluates performance, contributes information to develop budget, and provides status reports. Assesses staff skills and determines training needs. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of database concepts, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of database management systems. Knowledge of business and management principles, involved in strategic planning, and coordination of people and resources. Ability to diagnose database problems, determine solutions, and initiate necessary procedures. Ability to communicate project goals and problem solutions to supervisors, co-workers and subordinates in written or verbal form.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field; plus five years of experience in database administration, including two years in a supervisory capacity. OR Completion of technical training in computer science, data processing, or a related field acquired from a vocational, military, or industrial setting, plus five years of experience in database administration, computer support, including two years in a supervisory capacity.

Required Certificates:

Must possess a valid Arkansas driver’s license.
