SOFTWARE ENGINEER

The Software Engineer is responsible for the analysis, design, planning, development, testing, maintenance, and documentation of all components of the SAP Enterprise Resource Planning system using the Advance Business Application Programming language. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Provides enhancements and maintenance to complex application systems by designing, testing, debugging, and documenting programs. Prepares and/or updates project development documentation, status reporting, system documentation, product evaluations and manuals. Obtains and develops customer requirements through interviews, meetings, research and legal considerations. Works with customers to solve problems or make decisions requiring technical expertise or specialized knowledge. Advises customers on different options to make sound business decisions. Researches, evaluates, and recommends technically complex software packages for purchase. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of Network Security Devices Administration. Knowledge of application programming techniques and the execution and maintenance of automated information systems. Knowledge of the application of systems analysis and programming in automated information systems. Ability to formulate a design for a complex system and solve multifaceted problems considering hardware, software, and manpower required.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science or related field; plus four years of experience in programming, systems analysis, or a related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
