SOFTWARE ENGINEER LEAD

The Software Engineer Lead is responsible for leading a development and support team and provides technology solutions to meet customer requirements. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Administers day to day operations of the DIS security section. Assists, directs, and mentors other security analysts. Oversees logical security correlation for cyber security threats and responds to external complaints about malicious activity originating from the state network, including legal warnings or computer misuse. Conducts meetings related to security planning for DIS and its customers. Works on physical security issues related to access controls and surveillance. Reviews security polices and procedures and/or firewall rules. Works closely with the State Chief Security Officer to inform them of malicious activity on the State Network. Identifies and authorizes security projects for the DIS Security Section. Works with vendors on security related products and purchases products as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of networking and programming. Knowledge of Windows Server Administration. Knowledge of Unix Server Administration. Knowledge of Network Security Devices Administration. Ability to communicate well with administration, subordinates, peers, and management. Ability to present security related topics to all levels of management and all employee’s of the agency. Ability to plan future goals of the security department and align the goals of the security department with the overall goals of the DIS department. Ability to lead and coordinate incident response teams to address mal-ware that could cause severe degradation on the performance of the state network.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education of a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field; plus three years of experience in supporting object oriented applications and mainframe systems or related field, including one year of supervisory experience. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
