SENIOR IA

The Senior Intelligence Analyst is responsible for proper handling of criminal intelligence information, including file management and information evaluation. This position is governed by state and federal law and agency/institution policy.

Special Job Requirements:

Occasional in-state and out of state travel required. This position requires a background check.

Typical Functions:

Researches and analyses crime data gathered through crime/police reports Inputs and tracks criminal activity in a database or by computer mapping software. Provides investigative assistance in support of criminal investigations by searching databases. Communicates crime patterns to detectives and patrol officers. Serves as liaison with law enforcement and public/private sector. Provides special reports to chiefs of police and city councils interpreting crime statistics categorized by factors, such as geographical locations and/or economical conditions. Detects a pattern for crimes by studying and linking common factors together, such as method, suspect physical description, and weapon used. Performs Watch Officer duties, as scheduled, in accordance with policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of legal, privacy, and ethical issues relating to intelligence. Knowledge of tactical and strategic intelligence products. Knowledge and understanding of world events and their relationship to terror and terroristic threats to the United States. Knowledge of proper handling of crime scene evidence Ability to analyze information from disparate sources and produce a clear and concise intelligence product. Ability to learn and comprehend research techniques to support strategic and tactical intelligence needs. Ability to communicate in oral and in written form.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, business management, or a related field; plus five years of experience in criminal intelligence work. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
