RETIREMENT INVESTMENT SPECIALIST

The Retirement Investment Specialist is responsible for overseeing the investment activities of retirement systems. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Typical Functions:

Monitors and analyzes investment manager’s trade activity for accuracy and compliance with guidelines. Perform cash flow analysis and communicates with investment managers regarding withdrawals from accounts. Prepares quarterly market value report for accounting department to update financial report. Monitors and reviews daily trade activity and month-end reconciliation to ensure accuracy. Monitors custodian bank for trade settlements, collection of dividends, and interest income, and checks principal and interest payments for accuracy. Calculates investment management fees and authorizes custodian bank to pay invoice quarterly. Develops operational procedure manual and updates as needed. Coordinates year end close and balancing of investment accounts and provides information to the legislative auditors. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting. Knowledge of investment principles and practices. Knowledge of personal computer software functions. Ability to analyze financial data, project outcomes, and recommend future actions. Ability to interpret and apply the provisions of applicable laws, rules or regulations. Ability to maintain detailed records and prepare and present oral and written reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field; plus three years of experience in financial investing or a related area.
