RESIDENTIAL ACTIVITIES SUPERVISOR

The Residential Activities Supervisor is responsible for directing the care and guidance of residents in a state-operated facility. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Supervises a medium-sized support staff by interviewing, recommending for hire, training, assigning and reviewing work, and evaluating the performance of incumbents. Supervises and assists residents with assigned housekeeping duties and monitors activities and behaviors to ensure safety, security, and cooperation of residents. Prepares and maintains reports and records such as student behavior reports, incident reports, staff and building maintenance reports, daily logs, and various resident charts. Monitors monthly progress of residents and administers a point system to reward positive behavior, and disciplines residents exhibiting negative behavior. Plans and arranges recreational activities for dormitories, escorts residents on recreational activity trips and to campus facilities, and performs body and room searches of residents for illegal and/or dangerous objects. Counsels residents on personal problems, and communicates orally and/or in writing with supervisor and residents’ parents or guardians to answer questions and exchange information. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of institution residential services, programs, rules, and regulations. Knowledge of the principles and practices of organizational management. Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Ability to plan, organize, and oversee the work of subordinates. Ability to oversee and direct residents of state institutions. Ability to prepare and present oral and written information and reports. Ability to advice and counsel residents. Ability to interpret residents behavior to determine needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or a related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
