RESEARCH FIELD TECHNICIAN
The Research Field Technician is responsible for conducting field farming research activities, analysis of field data, and preparation of summary reports. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Occasional in-state travel may be required.
Typical Functions:
Prepares seeding for farm plots by securing seed, weighing, and confirming seed source and seed purity for experimental farming of crops.
Assists in measuring and laying out the field, planting lines, and manually putting out stake flags for panicle rows.
Ensures all seed parents for crossing are planted in different test plots to ensure staggered maturing of plants, and maintains records on different types of fertilizer, plant growth stages to maturity, and product yields.
Evaluates bug damage in crop samples and maintains plots by planting, fertilizing, watering, weed management, and keeping records of each crop variety and yield.
Assists students in keeping records and informs them of test plots and row data and provides feedback on test results how to calculate more accurate yields.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge of farming and experimental crops preparation, planting, and harvesting.
Knowledge of farm research techniques and data collection methods.
Knowledge of computer software applications related to experimental farm crops and data collection.
Ability to coordinate research activities with farming operations and record results.
Ability to operate farming equipment and related tools for maintenance.
Ability to keep farming records and prepare detailed reports of farming activity.
Minimum Qualifications:
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma, plus two years of experience in farming operations.
Required Certificates:
Must possess a valid Arkansas driver’s license if travel is required.
