QUALITY ASSURANCE TECHNICIAN

The Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for reviewing Social Security disability determinations for technical errors in accordance with Social Security disability rules and regulations. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Selects claims at random to review as a control group, examines claims, and reads case history and medical reports to ensure technical data and decisions are made in accordance with federal and agency guidelines. Corrects technical errors on claim, and/or consults medical consultants for correction of incorrect medical data. Generates various quality and process performance reports. Assists supervisors in interpreting and implementing social security regulations, policy, and procedures. Performs special studies by collecting data, analyzing information, compiling statistics, and preparing report on findings. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of state and federal laws and Social Security rules and regulations governing disability determination. Knowledge of technical and medical terms, reports, and records. Ability to interpret laws, rules, and regulations related to disability determination. Ability to read and analyze statistical data and prepare statistical reports. Ability to recognize vocational implications of various physical and mental impairments. Ability to analyze medical reports according to criteria and evaluate determinations.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of an associates’ degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or a related field; plus three years of experience in disability claims processing. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
