PREPAID FUNERAL MANAGER

The Prepaid Funeral Manager is responsible for the examination, monitoring, and licensure of prepaid funeral entities. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Supervises a subordinate staff of professional and administrative support workers by interviewing and hiring, making work assignments, monitoring work and evaluating employee performance. Performs trust fund examinations, prepares written examination reports, reconciles balance sheets and reports, and conducts follow up activities, as necessary. Directs the preparation and maintenance of accounting records of regulatory fees collected and provides technical assistance and responds to inquiries from contract providers, purchasers, staff and the general public. Evaluates and determines prepaid assets and liabilities with examination staff relating to licensed funeral home organization or perpetual care cemetery. Prepares and presents testimony during administrative hearings and court proceedings. Assists the criminal investigation division, pertaining to licensed funeral home or perpetual care cemetery. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Knowledge of funeral home and perpetual care cemetery operations. Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations governing funeral homes and perpetual care cemeteries. Ability to perform trust fund examinations. Ability evaluate and determine prepaid assets and liabilities. Ability to supervise a subordinate professional and administrative support staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s in finance, economics, or related field; plus four years of experience in funeral home operations, including one year in a regulatory capacity and one year in a supervisory capacity. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
