ORTHOTIST AIDE

The Orthotist Aide is responsible for constructing, repairing, and maintaining various adaptive equipment. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Typical Functions:

Fabricates adaptive equipment. Fits, tests, and evaluates devices for clients, making modifications for proper fit and function. Repairs, rebuilds, and modifies wheelchairs and adaptive equipment. Assembles and repairs manual and/or electric wheelchairs. Maintains inventory by requisitioning and stocking supplies and materials. Instructs clients in the use and care of various adaptive equipment. Cleans and maintains shop machinery, equipment, and tools. Attends regularly scheduled clinics and maintains a daily record of completed assignments. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of basic machinery. Knowledge of design techniques and tools. Ability to fabricate and design adaptive equipment. Ability to operate shop machinery, tools, and equipment. Ability to operate and maintain various types of electrical/mechanical equipment. Ability to communicate orally and in writing.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education of a high school diploma; plus two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of tools and adaptive equipment.
