OAL PUBLICATION SPECIALIST

The Office of Arkansas Lottery (OAL) Publication Specialist is responsible for planning, creating and implementing promotional events at lottery retail and claim center locations and creating and disseminating original, factual and engaging email, promotional and social media communications content (written, verbal and videotaped). This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Special Job Requirements:

This position will involve occasional in-state travel to various public relations or promotional events.

Typical Functions:

Builds engaging presence on social networking sites, featuring ASL players, winners, scholarship recipients and other stakeholders. Direct contact with lottery players and beneficiaries, identifying, writing, videotaping and disseminating sharable stories. Conducts interviews with retailers and other individuals to gather information for news articles, stories, social media posts, and retailer publications. Coordinates the collection and compilation of articles and information from resources to prepare printed communications/newsletters. Researches past publications and records to obtain pertinent information about subjects of articles and stories. Properly formats and sends printed publications to printer, proofreading copy, and arranging for distribution. Works well with other Advertising & Marketing and Sales team members, in addition to advertising agency, in collaborative atmosphere, supporting advertising campaigns, game launches, promotional and PR events, communications and all business efforts that support the ASL Mission. Participates in staff and other meetings, reporting on areas of responsibility. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Ability to plan and implement engaging promotional events. Ability to develop social strategies to support key campaigns, promotions, game launches, Ability to produce and write social content across key networks: Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, LinkedIn. Ability to conduct interviews and interact well with people of all ages, races, religions, etc. Ability to collect and write compelling content for email and/or printed publications. Ability to be highly organized, prioritizing your work schedule to meet deadlines. Ability to communicate in a professional manner that is effective and efficient. Ability to work well with team members. Comprehensive social media and website knowledge. Knowledge in the use of social media and website analytical tools. Knowledge of consumer interpretation to content on social channels. Knowledge of journalistic writing styles and ethics. Knowledge of format, design, and layout for publication and email purposes. Knowledge of Microsoft Office: Excel, Powerpoint, and Word.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a major in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field; plus demonstrated experience in conducting interviews, writing, social media content creation and promotional event engagement.

Required Certificates:

Must possess a valid Arkansas driver’s license.
