MUSEUM STORE MANAGER

Museum Store Manager is responsible for operating a specialty revenue-producing facility. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Typical Functions:

Supervises a small-sized staff of museum store support personnel by interviewing, hiring, training, making work assignments, and evaluating job performance. Supervises the purchase of store inventory including soft goods, gifts, souvenirs, and sundry items, which are focused on the mission of the museum. Initiates propriety product development. Performs in-store duties including operating computer sales systems, assisting customers, balancing cash receipts, and making deposits. Performs administrative duties such as compiling data for budget preparation, developing and revising store policies and procedures, and compiling and maintaining data for preparation of required reports. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of marketing and promotion strategies. Knowledge of inventory control, purchasing and procurement procedures, and customer service. Ability to greet customers, work with staff, make sales, and balance cash receipts. Ability to assign and coordinate work activities and to monitor the performance of co- workers and/or subordinates. Ability to select merchandise related to the museum’s mission and desirable to customers. Ability to prepare reports and maintain records and files.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or related area; plus one year of experience in retail sales, general business, or a related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
