MOTOR VEHICLE INVESTIGATOR

The Motor Vehicle Investigator is responsible for investigating possible violations of the Arkansas Motor Vehicle Commission Act, rules, or regulations. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Special Job Requirements:

Frequent in-state travel is required.

Typical Functions:

Investigates licensed and unlicensed vehicle dealers, distributors, and salespersons to determine compliance or non-compliance of the Arkansas Motor Vehicle Commission Act. Investigates possible violations and inspects required dealer facilities for compliance. Investigates false and misleading advertisements. Researches and compiles evidence. Writes reports of investigative findings. Presents testimony in commission and court hearings. Attends various public events and sales for investigative purposes. Conducts undercover investigations when non-compliance is suspected. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of general law enforcement methods, and the Arkansas Motor Vehicle Commission laws, rules, and regulations. Ability to conduct investigations and prepare reports. Ability to use computers and applicable software. Ability to operate digital cameras, and digital voice recorders, and other investigatory equipment. Ability to communicate orally and in writing.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of an associate’s degree in criminal justice, criminology, or a related field; plus one year of experience in inspection, regulation, or a related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
