MILITARY YOUTH CHALLENGE PROGRAM DIR

The Military Youth Challenge Program Director is responsible for overseeing all activities of the youth challenge program. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Typical Functions:

Supervises a subordinate staff by interviewing and recommending for hire, assigning and reviewing work, training new employees, and evaluating the performance of incumbents. Helps the chain of command to develop youth program policies and directives ensuring course training curriculum are current and effective, and develops, coordinates, and publishes long term class schedule. Establishes and monitors policies and procedures to ensure the accomplishment of program administrative requirements, provides accurate budget and expenditures information, and assists in developing and monitoring program budget. Provides technical assistance in all aspects of management, field of education, trends in youth behavior, and management of staff, and maintains contact with Arkansas Department of Education and Vocational Department. Presents programs and briefings to school communities and state and federal officials on goals and merits of the program, coordinates student counseling and disciplinary matters, and advises students and parents/guardians of pending problems and actions. Implements the safety program by providing training and complying with all regulations and safety requirements. Performs other duties as assigned.

Ability to oversee and direct the youth program Ability to monitor effectiveness of programs and services. Ability to prepare oral and written information and reports. Ability to communicate to a diverse group of people. Ability to analyze data and prepare reports

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in public administration, education or a related field; plus four years of experience in program or educational organization and administration or a related field, including two years in a supervisory capacity. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
