MILITARY HOUSING DIRECTOR

The Military Housing Director is responsible for directing the overall operation of the Military Professional Education Center housing department. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Typical Functions:

Supervises a medium-sized staff of Housing Managers and administrative support personnel by interviewing, hiring, training, making work assignments and evaluating job performance. Supervises the occupancy and maintenance of rooms for incoming students and guest of the Military Professional Education Center. Maintains occupancy records. Prepares budget recommendations for the Professional Education Center Housing Department, analyzes expenditures, monitors expenditures and program costs. Develops policies and procedures for the Military Professional Education Center Housing Department, interprets and enforces policies, rules and regulations. Plans renovations of rooms, prepares specifications, reviews and approves requisitions, and develops safety and security measures. Orders supplies, equipment, and uniforms, prepares specifications, reviews and approves requisitions. Plans training sessions for housing staff and represents the Support Services Department at various meetings. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of housing programs or hotel management. Knowledge of maintenance requirements for military housing. Knowledge of budgetary practices and procedures. Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Ability to prepare budgetary requests. Ability to plan and direct housing policies and procedures. Ability to direct maintenance and renovation activities. Ability to coordinate room assignments. Ability to supervise the work of subordinates.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in general business, public administration, or a related field; plus three years of experience in housing operations, including one year in a supervisory capacity.
