MILITARY FIRE & POLICE OFFICER

The Military Fire and Police Officer is responsible for providing fire protection, law enforcement, and security services for a military installation. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Provides fire suppression and protection, by protecting property from water and smoke, by use of waterproof salvage covers, smoke ejectors, and deodorants, and providing first responder emergency medical care, including basic life support, first aid, and CPR, to injured persons and those overcome by fire and smoke. Rescues individuals from situations in which they are physically trapped. Inspects building for fire hazards and compliance with fire prevention ordinances. Maintains apparatus, quarters, buildings, equipment, grounds, and hydrants. Inspects locks, window barriers, alarms, lighting, and other features to evaluate needs and to recommend actions to strengthen security. Answers radio-dispatched or citizens’ requests for police services at the scene of accidents, domestic disputes, law violations, and peace disturbances. Investigates illegal or suspicious activities and/or persons and quells disturbances. Locates, searches, detains, and arrests law violators, following recognized police procedures. Writes detailed incident, investigation, activity, and other reports. Issues written citations for traffic and other minor violations. May direct the activities of a small to medium-sized staff of fire and security personnel. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of crash/rescue regulations. Knowledge of public safety standards and procedures. Knowledge of public safety laws and military regulations. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to fight fires, perform fire safety and security inspections, and complete reports. Ability to conduct investigations and enforce laws and regulations. Ability to plan, organize, and oversee the work of subordinates. Ability to fight fires, perform fire safety and security inspections, and complete reports. Ability to conduct investigations and enforce laws and regulations. Ability to conduct and direct minor maintenance of vehicles and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma plus one year of experience in law enforcement/fire control, or related field. Must be able to complete the Arkansas law enforcement certification training as established by Act 452 of 1975, within one year of employment. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
