LEASING SPECIALIST

The Leasing Specialist is responsible for reviewing agencies' requests for office space and negotiating lease agreements. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Typical Functions:

Reviews expiring leases to determine intent and office space needs for the next year and reviews and evaluates agency office space request. Contacts real estate agents or individuals with leasing space and surveys leasing facilities regarding parking, layout, handicap accessibility, and compliance with state codes and laws governing state buildings. Determines fair rental value in negotiations based on market analysis, drafts and closes lease agreements, and recommends approval to supervisor. Coordinates with other department personnel on developing plans and specifications for new and remodeled building projects. Inspects buildings for compliance with specifications in lease and architectural drawings. Compiles various statistical reports regarding leases and feasibility studies. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of real estate principles and practices. Ability to express ideas and concepts orally and in writing. Ability to perform basic mathematical computations. Ability to conduct on-site inspections to determine specification and building code compliance, evaluate and document results, and recommend corrective actions.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of an associate’s degree in property management, real estate, or a related field; plus three years of experience in real estate, property management, or a related field.
