LABORATORY COORDINATOR

The Laboratory Coordinator is responsible for managing the operation and inventory
of a scientific academic laboratory. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Typical Functions:

Maintains inventory of laboratory equipment and supplies. Disburses equipment and supplies to faculty and students. Dispenses chemicals according to governmental safety regulations. Prepares bid lists for filling inventory requirements. Meets with sales representatives of vendors offering laboratory equipment and supplies. Makes minor repairs on lab equipment and refers major repairs to vendor technicians. Assists faculty in development of class presentations requiring laboratory items. Updates laboratory procedure manuals as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of scientific subjects, such as chemistry, physics, or biology. Knowledge of general laboratory procedures. Knowledge of governmental safety regulations regarding laboratory chemicals and supplies. Ability to maintain inventory of equipment and supplies in a scientific laboratory. Ability to operate and maintain laboratory equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education of a high school diploma; plus two years of specialized training in applied science or a related field; plus three years of experience maintaining a scientific laboratory or a related area, including one year in a leadership capacity.
