Special Job Requirements:

Work requires frequent use of and exposure to various laboratory chemicals and equipment.

Typical Functions:

Prepares supplies and maintains inventory of equipment used in clinical laboratory tests. Prepares media and reagents according to formulas by calculating quantities, weights or other measurements. Sterilizes equipment from laboratories, such as swabs, sticks, tissue grinders, tubing needles, and glass tubes. Assists lower level laboratory aides in preparation and processing procedures for laboratory experiments and other tests. Maintains records of samples and other test requirements. Performs preliminary examinations and compares related test results. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of routine laboratory procedures. Ability to prepare materials and equipment for laboratory tests. Ability to maintain test records. Ability to prepare arithmetic calculations. Ability to read, follow, and/or apply instructions and procedures to clinical laboratory tests.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma.
