INVESTMENT ANALYST

The Investment Analyst is responsible for processing and/or verifying investment transactions and reports. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Checks and verifies transactions against money manager reports, custodian bank reports, and broker confirmations. Determines funds available for investment and obtains bids from investment firms, selecting highest bidder. Writes journal vouchers for accounting system, records transactions, and authorizes checks to fund daily operations. Instructs bank/financial institutions to accept deposits or wire funds to other institutions. Prepares status reports of investments held, purchases, and sales and submits to Manager and Board of Trustees. Compiles information for investment portfolio, including listings of short term securities, details of purchases, sales listings at book value, changes in stocks (splits, redemptions, etc.), and cash flow charts. Processes mortgage investments and updates mortgage investment files. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting. Knowledge of investment principles and practices. Knowledge of the operation of personal computers and relevant applications systems. Ability to maintain computerized and manual accounting records. Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, or policies to specific situations. Ability to identify and resolve discrepancies in financial reports. Ability to compile and analyze data and prepare reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field; plus two years of experience involving the management, monitoring, and/or maintenance of records on securities investments. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
