INTERSTATE TRUCK DRIVER

The Interstate Truck Driver is responsible for operating state commercial vehicles and driving cross-country to pick-up/deliver surplus property. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Special Job Requirements:

Frequent in-state and out-of-state travel required.

Typical Functions:

Operates state commercial diesel trucks, forklifts, winches, and other heavy military equipment to pick-up and/or deliver surplus property to Arkansas and other states. Loads and secures property, according to Federal Department of Transportation Standards, and plans routes to minimize agency and done costs. Inspects surplus government property for serviceability and use by qualified agency, verifies property list before loading and unloading, and provides technical assistance to donees in warehouse upon delivery. Maintains driver’s daily log book, as prescribed by the United States Department of Transportation, maintains fuel mileage reports, performs maintenance to equipment, as necessary, and completes time sheet and travel reimbursement forms. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of United States Department of Transportation Federal Government Rules and Regulations for loading, transporting, and securing heavy equipment. Knowledge of warehousing, shipping, and receiving practices and procedures. Ability to operate heavy machinery, such as forklifts, winches, cranes, or bulldozers. Ability to travel cross-country for extended periods of time. Ability to communicate in oral and written form. Skill in truck driving.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus two years experience in cross-country commercial driving. Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver’s License with endorsements of passenger and tank vehicle. Must pass a Department of Transportation medical examination. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
