INSTITUTIONAL BEAUTICIAN

The Institutional Beautician is responsible for providing beauty services for clients in state institutions. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Special Job Requirements:

Constant standing for long hours, working with hands at shoulder level, and heavy lifting to position patients is required.

Typical Functions:

Provides hair care for clients, including shampooing, giving permanents, styling hair, and administering scalp treatments, and manicures clients’ nails. Provides in-service training to employees on how to provide hair and scalp treatments to clients, and instructs clients on grooming skills to encourage independence. Maintains inventory, obtains bid quotes, and completes requisitions for approval. Cleans and maintains area by sweeping floors. Cleans and sterilizes brushes and combs. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of cosmetology procedures. Knowledge of institutional rules and regulations. Ability to provide hair care and beauty treatments following prescribed medical orders. Ability to maintain inventory and requisition supplies. Ability to provide cosmetology training to employees and to instruct clients on grooming techniques. Ability to sterilize and disinfect area and implements.

Minimum Qualifications:

Licensed as a beautician by the Arkansas Board of Cosmetology, as established by Act 358 of 1955. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
