EDUCATION INVESTIGATOR

The Education Investigator is responsible for conducting investigations regarding alleged educator misconduct and addresses filed complaints. This position is governed by state and federal laws and school board and agency/institution policy.

Frequent in-state travel is required.

Typical Functions:

Conducts investigations concerning the licensing and discipline of professional educators and process complaints of alleged misconduct, criminal charges, or convictions. Develops and maintains a comprehensive record of all actions regarding each complaint and prepares a detailed report of the facts of each case. Interviews individuals related to a complaint, documents each response to an allegation, and discusses significance of allegations. Conducts background investigations, formulates conclusions, and prescribes recommendations and corrective actions as required by Federal law. Testifies at evidentiary or Arkansas state Board of Education hearings when called. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of the methods and techniques of investigation. Knowledge of the rules of evidence and court procedures. Knowledge of educator licensing and special education requirements. Ability to conduct investigations as required by Federal law. Ability to conduct interviews using standard interviewing techniques. Ability to evaluate and sort data to determine significance. Ability to gather information and prepare written reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in public administration, educational administration, education, or related field; plus three years of experience in the area of conducting investigations, fact finding, mediation, or law enforcement methodologies. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
