Typical Functions:

Supervises a medium-sized professional staff by interviewing, recommending for hire, training new employees, reviewing work, and evaluating the performance of incumbents. Reviews monthly caseload activity and progress reports prepared by investigative staff. Coordinates with other health professionals in the collection of medical data and provides advice on investigative methods, counseling techniques, and treatment for disease prevention and control. Provides assistance in the sexually-transmitted disease clinic by monitoring patients and exposed persons, interviewing, counseling, documenting investigations, and maintaining records. Reviews counseling, testing, investigative, and training techniques to identify areas needing improvement and recommends corrective action. Plans promotional efforts and coordinates with representatives from other agencies and civic groups in the promotion of sexually-transmitted disease control. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Knowledge of interviewing and counseling procedures and techniques. Knowledge of causes, prognosis, and treatment of sexually-transmitted diseases. Ability to plan, organize, and oversee the work of subordinates. Ability to perform/monitor diagnostic tests, conduct counseling sessions, develop treatment plans, and monitor results. Ability to compile data, prepare reports, and maintain files and records. Ability to prepare and present oral and written reports

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, sociology, nursing, environmental health, or a related field; plus three years of experience in public health investigations, including one year of supervisory experience. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
