DHS/DOV AREA COORDINATOR

The Department of Human Services (DHS) / Division of Volunteerism (DOV) Area Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating, managing and evaluating statewide volunteer programs. The position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Special Job Requirements:

Frequent in-state and occasional out-of-state travel is required.

Typical Functions:

Coordinates the Arkansas Promise Fellows AmeriCorps Program including initial grant application and development of request for applications. Evaluates applications, site selection, training and technical assistance for site supervisors and AmeriCorps members, site monitoring, and data collection. Develops the Arkansas service commission disability outreach plan. Submits annual grant application, administers disability funds, and trains AmeriCorps program staff and members on disability issues. Assists programs with reasonable accommodations, gathers data, prepares reports, and networks with disability groups in the area. Provides information, training and technical assistance on AmeriCorps State programs. Coordinates and monitors site visits and assists with program progress report review. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of grants administration. Knowledge of the concepts and principles of program development and management. Knowledge of the principles and practices of organizational management. Ability to develop programs and conduct training. Ability to communicate information orally and in writing. Ability to monitor and evaluate program effectiveness.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalence of a bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, public administration, education, public relations or a related field.

Required Certificates:

Must possess a valid Arkansas driver’s license.
