DHS/DDS PROGRAM COORDINATOR

The Department of Human Services (DHS) / Developmental Disabilities Services (DDS) Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating individualized programs and acting as advocate for developmentally disabled residents. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:

Supervises a small to medium-sized professional staff by interviewing and recommending for hire, assigning and reviewing work, training employees, resolving work problems, and evaluating the performance of incumbents. Assists in the development of program plans to meet resident’s needs by exchanging information with staff and reviewing collected data. Reviews summary reports on each resident’s program to determine need for revisions. Conducts staff meetings with team members to determine resident progress and to develop a new or modified programs, takes minutes, and completes a comprehensive report on the outcome. Writes, monitors, and evaluates the effectiveness of resident programs, ensures compliance by compiling comprehensive reports, coordinates admissions according to procedures, and assigns client to various programs. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of programs for the developmentally disabled. Knowledge of supervisory practices and techniques. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the work of others. Ability to prepare, present, and review oral and written information. Ability to develop, plan, monitor, and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services for the developmentally disabled.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in psychology, special education, or a related field; plus three years of experience in planning individualized programs for the developmentally disabled. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
